Zain KSA Launches Kingdom’s First Fully Carbon-Neutral EcoFusion Telecom Tower Site

Supporting transition to green networks through a strategic partnership with CST and Huawei

Zain KSA, the leading digital services provider, has announced the launch of Saudi Arabia’s first 100% carbon-neutral EcoFusion telecom tower site, in collaboration with the Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) and Huawei. The announcement was made during Zain KSA’s participation at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh.

The project is part of the company’s strategy to develop energy-efficient networks, in line with global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the Information and Communications Technology sector.

The zero-carbon EcoFusion tower site marks another significant milestone in Zain KSA’s journey of targeted investment in sustainable networks, advancing its goal of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon dioxide emissions by 42% by 2030. It also complements the company’s contribution to the Kingdom’s efforts to develop a more advanced and sustainable ICT sector.

The new site integrates renewable energy technologies with advanced energy-management and efficiency solutions, helping reduce energy consumption by up to 33.1%, with a further 8% reduction achieved through renewable energy sources. Once the model is deployed across 2,000 sites annually, the project could reduce carbon emissions by approximately 31,396 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, comparable to the environmental impact of planting around 1.5 million trees each year.

Our strategy at Zain KSA is centered on extending the role of telecommunications networks beyond providing the infrastructure for data transmission, to delivering integrated platforms that enable sustainable economic growth, enhance efficiency across sectors and accelerate the adoption of next-gen technologies. With this in mind, we are embedding innovation and sustainability at the heart of our operating model by investing in networks that are more energy-efficient and better prepared for 5G+ technologies. This allows us to deliver advanced operational performance while reducing environmental impact.”

The launch of the Kingdom’s first 100% carbon-neutral telecom site is a strategic milestone in our journey toward building a low-emission network at scale. It demonstrates the capacity of the Kingdom’s infrastructure to support sustainable development through innovative projects and initiatives. This milestone also reflects our approach to building high-impact partnerships with global technology giants to develop advanced digital infrastructure that keeps pace with the Kingdom’s ambitions and strengthens its position as a regional hub for technology and innovation. At Zain KSA, sustainability is a pillar of sustainable growth. We are therefore working to embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards across our operations and value chain in ways that enhance the reliability and efficiency of our network and build a diversified, low-carbon economy powered by innovation and cutting-edge technology.”

The launch of the zero-carbon EcoFusion tower site is a natural extension of the ESG programs, initiatives, and achievements Zain KSA has delivered. Most recently, the company completed a landmark project to digitally connect the Farasan Islands through advanced wireless backhaul solutions that provide fast, reliable connectivity while protecting the area’s renowned marine environment. Zain KSA also received an upgraded A score rating in the global climate change disclosure cycle issued by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
